Hostel focus: Aventura Boutique Hostel and Apartments, Budapest.

Based at 12 Visegradi Street in Budapet, the family run Aventura Boutique Hostel and Apartments is certainly unique, with each room offering a chance to bed down somewhere different…there is the clear and minimal Japan double room, the exotic, eight-bed Africa room (pictured above), the warm, six-bed India room and, for those who want to sleep under the stars (without the cold outside bit), the four-bed space room. There is also the romantic Rouge studio apartment and the larger Art apartment, catering for up to five people. Operating since 2006, it is also one of the longest established hostels in town.

Intrigued? We spoke to Aventura owner, the lovely Agnes Erdohati (she’s the lady in the gorgeous rockabilly dresses from the 1950s) to find out what makes her boutique hostel so special.

What makes your hostel unique?

Apart from our themed rooms (we take lots of care about the design and maintenance), we are proud to be a small, family run business offering a cosy environment and personal care – we know each guest one by one as we only have 20 beds, and we have lots of return visitors.

We had our property rented for a promotional video shooting once, where many Hungarian celebrities were interviewed. We also had some musicians from foreign bands, but I can’t remember who. My staff back then were really enthusiastic about them though.

What additional facilities or services are on offer?

Lots – we have a a large, fully equipped guest kitchen, The kitchen with a small loft is also our social area, which is a great place to meet the other travellers. We also have  a tours/travel desk, bike rental and, for that added relaxation, an in-hostel massage service.

As well as the opportunity to cook for yourself, we also offer three different types of breakfast, a continental breakfast in our kitchen, a nice warm egg breakfast in the café under the hostel and a very local sausage breakfast at the butcher in the building.
