You have probably seen our Facebook posts and retweets about the chic and sleek Sophie’s Hostel in Prague – this week we take a closer look at what Sophie’s, one of our accommodation partners, has to offer the intrepid Interrailer.
First, the location. Sophie’s is located on Melounova 2, a quiet street in the New Town area of Prague. For those who want to get a feel of the city (the “real Prague”) then this neighbourhood is perfect, providing a plethora of local restaurants, cafes and shops to savour – without the usual tourist hustle and bustle. However, that’s not to say you aren’t in the thick of it too – just a five minute walk is the vibrant Wenceslas Square. One of the two main squares in the city (the other is Old Town Square). Wenceslas Square or Václavské náměstí as its known, is an entertainment and nightlife hotspot as well as home to numerous shops, hotels, bars and restaurants. At the top is the National Museum, just off to the left is the Prague State Opera and and there are many other tourist attractions and sights just a walk (or tram ride) away.
Second, the building itself. Sophie’s offers a modern, stylish and welcoming interior, as designed by Czech architect Olga Novotná (artwork by Czech designer Zora Mazáčová), within a 19th century Art Nouveau building. A range of accommodation is available, from 5 to 10 bed dorms with private or shared bathrooms (including a female dorm), private rooms and apartments.
As well as a kitchen for guests to use, Sophie’s also offers a hearty breakfast. There is an all-you-can-eat buffet (fresh bread, ham and cheese, jams, granola, fruit, yogurt and juices, plus tea and coffee) for 150 CZK, or you can upgrade to a hot brunch for 200 CZK, which includes eggs, bacon, pancakes and more – not bad at all when you have had rather a heavy evening the night before! There isn’t a lunch or dinner option but then, you are in Prague – get out and see what the city has to offer!
So that’s Sophie’s in a nutshell. Want to know a little more? Ondrej Janku, Sales & Marketing Manager at Sophie’s (and its sister hostels, Czech Inn and Sir Toby’s), gave us some more information…
